Impact And Social Value

Demonstrating Impact

We work in the VCFSE sector because we want to make life better for our local communities, and we strive to do that every day. We can see at first hand the difference our support makes. But we need to be able to demonstrate that clearly – to ourselves, so we know what works and what doesn’t; to funders, so they keep funding us; and to decision makers, so we can help influence strategic decisions about how services are designed and funded into the future.

Impact measurement – both qualitative (stories) and quantitative (numbers) – needs to be built into our work from the beginning. This Hub can be a place where data and stories are gathered together, clearly demonstrating our collective impact and the social value of our work in Somerset’s communities.

This space on the Insights Hub has three areas, with one live and two currently in development:

Qualitative: access to a Report Library where you can easily share your Impact Reports and anonymised case studies, helping us build a compelling, sector wide picture of the difference your organisations are making. If you have reports you wish to share, these can be uploaded via the button on the library page.

THE FOLLOWING FEATURES ARE IN DEVELOPMENT AND COMING SOON

Quantitative: the Impact and Social Value dashboard will give us a vehicle to gather together quantitative impact data and allocate a value to the outcomes achieved via the use of recognised ‘proxies’ . We’ve recently invested in the Social Value Engine to see how we can support organisations to calculate their impact in this way.

The ‘Somerset Voices’ section will enable us to give the impact story some real faces and voices. Here we’ll be working to gather together pictures, videos and vox pops direct from communities to bring the numbers to life.

Objective: To use metrics and indicators to quantify the social impact of various programmes and initiatives, helping to build a compelling case for continued support and funding from donors, grant-makers, and government bodies. Ultimately, robust social value and sustainability measures strengthen the case for investment in community-focused efforts, amplifying the reach and effectiveness of services that benefit society.
